Few sports
can teach the life skills that football can.
Teamwork,
dedication and a superior work ethic are all essential fundamentals needed
to play the great sport of football. We hope that all players have
some fun and at the same time build a great ethical base that they can use
for the rest of their lives.
The CTYFL football program is a collaborative effort by all the member
towns. Rules and regulations are discussed and voted on so we can come
up with the best program to fit the needs of our players here in CT.
The first allowed day of practice is
Aug 1st, and each town has their own practice schedule so you will want to
make sure you know when the season starts in your town. Games begin in
September and are held on Sundays with
B's at
9:00, A at 11:00, C at 1:00, Mighty Mites at 3:00. Generally
the season goes for 8 weeks and then there are playoffs and championships at
the A,B, and C levels. All games are held in the same way a High
School game would be with refs, chain crew, cheerleaders, and of course lots
of fans. Also the same as High Schools, we do not have
National competitions that would force our regular season to be shortened
and also force parents to come up with the money needed to fund a teams
travel expenses across the US to play different teams. The CTYFL has
plenty of teams right here in CT, and would need a 14 week season to play
every team once.

About the ages and weight -
The CTYFL has found that age and
maturity are the dominant factors as to how well a child competes in the
game of football.
Our weight limits support most athletes
in their given age or grade level, allowing more children to participate in
sports. A child progresses through the teams, staying 2 years on
the same team along with his/her fellow school classmates.
There
are really no older but lighter players taking key positions away from those of the
proper age. The CTYFL has aligned the make up of the teams to closely
coincide with the school grade levels, and at the same time keep the age
span on a team as tight as possible. Below is the ages and weight
limits of the teams.
Minimum age is 7 as of Dec 31st of the
playing year
Players that are below the minimum
weight for each level have the choice of playing down on the level below
their age group, and players that are over the weight for their teams may
play up.
